The history of Nordgaard

It appears from old maps that already in 1770 there was a farm, where Nordgaard is located today and in the old church books we can see that Nordgaard and apparently the former Hulegaard has been connected for many years. The first mention is in 1823, where they are owned by Søren Ole Olsen. Over the door of the old pig stable it says, "This shed was buildt by Ole Olsen ....". The stable is half-timbering and was erected in 1829 and had oiginally thatch.

In 1849 Chamberlain Hans Frederik Fenger bought Nordgaard. At that time it was a very neglected farm. The main building was already at that time a very big building, but "inside, there were endless tacky." Hans Frederik Fenger lived with his 12 children in the old main building, as seen in the picture top right. The fields were at that time all fenced with stone walls. Hans Frederik Fenger cultivated the meadow, which was overgrown with heather, cleared off rocks and burned the heather of. The blocks were blown up with gunpowder and used to construct the two old buildings made of boulders, loading barn and cow house and a garden wall that does not exist anymore. The stones from the wall are probably those who today constitute the foundations of the new main building which was built in 1920. Already in 1850 the garden was described as an old garden with many fruit trees, a large lawn with flower beds outside the garden room in the main buliding and with a large thatched roof arbour in the rear end of the garden. In 1859  Frederick Fenger sold the farm to Lieutenant James Webster Lundewall.

There were then several owners before the Farmer Bank in 1885 took it to auction for 160,000 kroner. Then the the farm for a time was owned by a consortium, was sold in 1891 by Judge Øllgaard to landowner A. Andersen, Adamshøj, who in 1902 sold it to proprietary Hansen Nord. In 1932 the heirs sold it to proprietary Pape, who was replaced by Baron Løwenskjold in 1938. In 1942 landowner Th. Danielsen bought the farm and it was then in family ownership until we moved into it in 1999. At that time the earth was separated from Nordgaard and placed into the neighboring farm Adamshøj.

In 1905 Hansen entered the Nordgaard after the facts of that time a very large and modern dairy barn with room for a good 75 cows. Here was one of Denmark's first and largest herds of Jersey cows. In the other livestock buildings, there have been over 100 pigs and horses and chickens. In addition, there has been a life with many employees, including there has been a school room for both farm children and children from the area. There have previously belonged 4 land houses and 232 hectares of land to the farm spread over 206 hectares of arable land, 11 hectares of forest, 5 ha garden and yard.
